It’s been said that Glencairn is the closest you’ll come to Scotland without crossing the Atlantic. From the moment you pass the stone gates and wind your way between rock fences to the majestic multi-turreted clubhouse, you will feel like you just arrived at a Scottish links. Designed by Thomas McBroom, Glencairn’s 27 links-style holes are punctuated by steep pot bunkers and framed by fescue that waves menacingly in the ever-present wind that buffets the Halton Hills just west of Toronto. Burns (narrow meandering streams) cut through the heaving landscape of the Niagara Escarpment. You’ll have to be creative on the tight lies that surround the mammoth undulating greens. Afterwards, luxuriate in the castle-like clubhouse modeled after Scotland’s Muirfield, featuring brilliant photographs from three decades of Open Championship golf taken by award-winning photographer Doug Ball. Grab an ale in a cozy corner of the magnificently appointed Friar Pub or end your work week with a Friday night on the patio listening to one of the live bands that offer some sounds of the summer to savour with your delectable meal. Campbell House is available for private functions, every day of the year. The interior and exterior spaces provide a gracious setting for events of all kinds – from corporate meetings to wedding parties. Free tours of the building by the museum’s historical interpreters and wood fire in fireplaces can be arranged for your guests. The venue has hosted events from 20 to 550 people, indoors and outdoors. Our elegant Ballroom, with its high ceilings and 5 large windows, is the largest room in our historic house and can accommodate 50 people for a sit-down style event or 70 people standing. Exclusive Use of House: The option of incorporating all of the rooms listed above, plus both the main floor and second floor foyers, is a wonderful solution for large cocktail receptions, allowing guests to explore and enjoy the entire house throughout the event. The architectural firm of Robinson, Carrick Associates Ltd. Has been responsible for some of Canada’s most stimulating, challenging and admired courses. Tearing the whole course apart and starting from scratch, The Mandarin Golf and Country Club was opened in 1991. It was the brainchild of four Hong Kong-born businessmen, each of whom had been based in Canada for almost 20 years. The club as described by designer Doug Carrick was characterized as a “modernized version of the old classic style of golf courses built in the 1920’s and 30’s. Modest sized, gently rolling greens surrounded by flowing, sculpted bunkers set the framework for the course. Generous fairways defined by strategic bunkering and open green entrances provide challenge and interest for the expert player, yet offer a very playable and enjoyable experience for the majority of members”.
The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville is one of the jewels of the GTA, located just north of Toronto on highway 404. Whitchurch-Stouffville Town Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month (schedule is subject to change). All Council meetings are held in the Municipal Offices, Council Chambers.
